The Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli hosted its annual flagship leadership conclave, Daksha 4.0, under the theme “The Human Element: Redefining Leadership in the Age of AI.” The conclave brought together C‑suite executives, industry veterans, and rising leaders from domains such as finance, technology, consulting, marketing, operations, and human resources to explore how leadership must evolve amid rapid advances in artificial intelligence.
Presided over by dignitaries including Air Marshal Chakalayil Rajappa Mohan, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd.) as Chief Guest, Dr. Pawan Kumar Singh, Director of IIM Tiruchirappalli, Prof. Abhishek Kumar Totawar, Chairperson of the Placement and Media Relations Committee, and Prof. P. Saravanan, Dean (Corporate Relations and Faculty Affairs), Daksha 4.0 created a platform for structured, purposeful dialogue on the intersection of technology, ethics, and human‑centred leadership.
Leadership, Technology, and Human Responsibility
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Singh underscored the Institute’s vision for leadership in the age of AI, emphasizing India’s global responsibility rooted in the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the world as one family. He noted that India, as a repository of knowledge and innovation, bears a responsibility to ensure that technological progress serves humanity more broadly and inclusively. Contrasting Industry 4.0, which placed technology at the centre, with Industry 5.0, which prioritizes the integration of humans and technology, Dr. Singh argued that sustainable progress can only emerge when technology is embedded within human values, empathy, and ethical accountability.
Keynote: AI as a Transformative Force
Air Marshal CR Mohan delivered the keynote address, drawing on his extensive experience in defence, technology, and systems leadership. He likened AI’s impact to the transformative role electricity played in industrial revolutions, underscoring that AI is not just a tool but a fundamental shift in how organizations operate, make decisions, and interact with stakeholders. However, he cautioned that this power must be guided by clear human intention and ethical frameworks.
Mohan warned against reducing human beings to mere data points or efficiency metrics, urging leaders not to let intelligence become a “paper clipping of humanity.” He emphasized that leadership in the AI era should not be defined by algorithmic optimization alone, but by the ability to exercise creativity, moral judgment, and purpose. In a phrase that captured the spirit of the conclave, he stated that “the true test of leadership in the age of AI will be whether we can outhuman the machine,” placing dignity, empathy, and ethical decision‑making at the heart of leadership.

Panels and Industry Perspectives
Daksha 4.0 opened with a flagship Leadership Panel, featuring senior leaders from organizations such as SQFT Fund, TransUnion CIBIL, Times Internet, Bluestone, and Freshworks. The panel examined how AI is reshaping decision‑making, performance management, and organizational culture, while highlighting the importance of trust, accountability, and inclusion in AI‑driven workplaces. Discussions also explored how AI can augment human judgment instead of replacing it, and how leaders must cultivate a culture of continuous learning, transparency, and collaboration.
By blending academic insight, industry practice, and philosophical reflection, Daksha 4.0 reaffirmed IIM Tiruchirappalli’s role as a thought leader in shaping leadership that is both technologically savvy and deeply human.
