The National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur has signed a memorandum of understanding with IIT Roorkee to deepen academic and research ties between the two premier technical institutions. The agreement aims to foster joint research projects, shared supervision of PhD students, and enhanced exchange opportunities for students and faculty.
The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur and IIT Roorkee have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen academic and research collaboration. The agreement was signed by NIT Jamshedpur Director Goutam Sutradhar and IIT Roorkee Director Kamal Kishore Pant on Friday, according to an official statement.
The MoU is designed to promote joint research projects, joint PhD supervision, student and faculty exchange programmes, internship opportunities, and startup incubation initiatives. Sutradhar stressed that the memorandum will be implemented in its “true spirit” to generate tangible benefits for students and faculty. He highlighted the importance of effectively using shared facilities such as research parks, innovation centres, and incubation ecosystems on both campuses.
Both institutions also share a strong academic linkage, with many NIT Jamshedpur faculty members being alumni of IIT Roorkee. This longstanding connection is expected to further ease knowledge transfer, collaboration in emerging technologies, and joint initiatives in teaching and entrepreneurship. The partnership positions NIT Jamshedpur and IIT Roorkee to jointly advance research, innovation, and skilling, with a focus on industry‑relevant outcomes and startup growth.
