AGC Opens Innovation Hub at IIT Hyderabad

AGC Asia Pacific India Private Limited has inaugurated the AAPI Innovation Hub at the IIT Hyderabad Technology Research Park, creating a joint platform for internships, collaborative research, and innovation‑driven projects between AGC engineers and IIT Hyderabad students and faculty in AI and digital technologies.

AGC Launches AAPI Innovation Hub at IIT Hyderabad

AGC Asia Pacific India Private Limited (AAPI), a group company of Japan‑based AGC Inc., has inaugurated the AAPI Innovation Hub at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) Technology Research Park (TRP). The hub, opened on Thursday, will serve as a focal point for industry–academia collaboration, focusing on digital transformation, advanced engineering, and practical, solution‑oriented research.

The AAPI Innovation Hub aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real‑world industry demands by creating structured opportunities for internships, joint research, and innovation‑driven engagements between AGC engineers, IIT Hyderabad students, and researchers. Through this platform, AGC expects to nurture Digital Transformation (DX) talent and strengthen its technology pipeline in India.

Driving Digital Transformation Through Collaboration

AGC has identified India as a strategic region for advancing Digital Transformation, thanks to the country’s large pool of skilled engineering and digital‑technology talent. The new hub will allow AGC to work more closely with IIT Hyderabad in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, data‑driven solutions, and advanced engineering applications, with an emphasis on industry‑relevant, deployable outcomes.

The collaboration will leverage the institute’s expertise in computer science, AI, and systems engineering, as well as AGC’s global experience in glass, chemicals, and materials technologies. The hub will host joint projects that combine academic research with industrial problem‑solving, enabling students to tackle real‑world challenges in smart manufacturing, predictive analytics, and sustainable materials development.

Building on an Existing Partnership

The AAPI Innovation Hub expands an already active partnership between AGC Asia Pacific India and IIT Hyderabad. The two organisations have previously worked together on internship programmes and AI‑related joint research initiatives, and the new hub will formalise and scale these efforts under a single innovation‑focused platform.

IIT Hyderabad has highlighted that the hub will not only expose students to international R&D practices but also let AGC engineers tap into the institute’s research ecosystem, including its laboratories, computing resources, and specialised faculty expertise. By embedding the hub inside the IIT Hyderabad Technology Research Park, both parties aim to create a continuous flow of ideas, prototypes, and talent between industry and academia.

A Space for Daily Collaboration and Prototyping

Prof. B. S. Murty, Director of IIT Hyderabad, said the establishment of the AAPI Innovation Hub reflects the growing importance of global industry–academic partnerships in driving future technologies and innovation. He noted that such collaborations help prepare students for the rapidly evolving digital and advanced‑manufacturing landscape while also enabling institutions to stay aligned with industrial needs.

Shinichiro Iwakura, General Manager of the Digital and Innovation Management Division at AGC, described the Innovation Hub not merely as a physical room but as a collaborative workspace where bright minds from IIT Hyderabad and AGC engineers will interact daily. He said researchers and engineers will share ideas, test hypotheses, and build prototypes together, turning conceptual insights into tangible technological solutions.

The hub is expected to host regular project sprints, hackathons, and short‑term research challenges, with students working under the guidance of AGC mentors on use‑inspired projects in AI, digital twin systems, and smart‑materials design. Over time, the AAPI Innovation Hub aims to become a model for how multinational corporations can co‑create knowledge with top Indian institutes, strengthening India’s position in the global innovation ecosystem.
