Shri Chaudhari Shivraj Singh, a distinguished IIT (BHU) alumnus, has taken charge as Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL), a Mini Ratna Category-I subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), at its Ranchi headquarters. Previously, CMD of Eastern Coalfields Limited, Shri Satish Jha, held additional charge following the retirement of former CMD Manoj Kumar, ensuring a seamless transition.

With over 35 years in the coal sector, Singh began his career at Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) in 1990 after earning a B.Tech in Mining Engineering from IIT (BHU), Varanasi. He also holds an Executive Diploma in Project Management from George Washington University School of Business, USA, plus certifications in Project Appraisal & Risk Management (Duke University), Sustainability (ESCP Paris), Industry 4.0 (Maribor University), and Project Financing (IIM Bangalore).

Singh’s expertise spans project management, opencast mine planning, operations, business planning, and enterprise risk management. Key achievements include leading the Singrauli Coalfield Master Plan, forging planning-execution links that propelled NCL beyond 100 MTPA production, and contributing to CIL Vision 2047 and Long Term Plan 2035. He served as OSD to CMPDIL’s CMD, General Manager (Corporate Planning) at CIL, and in senior roles at NCL.

His global exposure includes executive programs in the USA, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, Uzbekistan, and Australia.

This appointment will bolster CMPDIL’s mine planning, design, and tech support for CIL subsidiaries, driving operational excellence and sustainability in India’s coal industry.
