IIT Bhubaneswar has signed an MoU with the Odisha CSR Forum to promote CSR, sustainability, community development, and capacity-building across Odisha through joint projects and training.

IIT Bhubaneswar Partners with Odisha CSR Forum

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Odisha CSR Forum to foster collaboration in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), sustainability, community development, and capacity-building initiatives across Odisha.

The MoU was formally exchanged between Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar, and Brajendra Kumar Mishra, Convener, Odisha CSR Forum, on Monday. The ceremony took place in the presence of Prof. Dinakar Pasla, Dean (Sponsored Research & Industrial Consultancy), and Prof. Ashis Biswas, Dean (Alumni, Corporate & International Relations), along with Pradeep Kumar Sahoo, Deputy Registrar (Alumni, Corporate & International Relations) from IIT Bhubaneswar, and T.C. Hota from the Odisha CSR Forum.

Combining Academic Strength with CSR Expertise

The partnership aims to create a collaborative framework for promoting sustainable development and social impact activities by combining the academic and research strengths of IIT Bhubaneswar with the industry and CSR expertise of the Odisha CSR Forum.

Through this alliance, the two organisations will also leverage IIT Bhubaneswar’s technical and research capabilities alongside the Forum’s network of corporate partners and CSR practitioners. This synergy will enable more evidence-based, scalable, and impactful interventions across Odisha’s development landscape.

Joint Training, Workshops, and Consultancy Assignments

As part of the collaboration, both organisations will jointly undertake training programmes, workshops, seminars, conferences, CSR conclaves, stakeholder consultations, and consultancy assignments related to CSR strategy, sustainability reporting, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), skill development, and social impact assessment.

These activities will help build capacity among CSR professionals, corporate leaders, and development practitioners. They will also create a knowledge-sharing platform where best practices, case studies, and innovative approaches to sustainability and community development can be exchanged.

Implementing Projects in Key Development Areas

The MoU envisages joint implementation of projects in critical areas such as education, health, environment, livelihood, rural development, renewable energy, climate change, and community development.

In education, the partnership can support initiatives like digital learning, teacher training, and infrastructure development in schools. In health, it can enable outreach programmes, health camps, and awareness campaigns. For environment and climate change, the collaboration can focus on sustainability projects, waste management, and climate resilience initiatives.

Livelihood and rural development programmes will also aim to enhance income-generating opportunities, support self-help groups, and promote skill-based entrepreneurship. Renewable energy projects may include solar installations, energy efficiency measures, and clean-cooking solutions in rural and semi-urban areas.

Student and Youth Engagement in CSR

The agreement emphasizes student and youth engagement through volunteer participation in CSR initiatives and outreach programmes. IIT Bhubaneswar students will get opportunities to contribute to community development projects, gain field exposure, and apply their technical knowledge to real-world social challenges.

The MoU also supports scholarships and fellowships for meritorious and economically weaker students, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder access to quality education. This dimension of the partnership strengthens the institution’s commitment to inclusive growth and social equity.

Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships for Societal Challenges

Officials from both institutions highlighted the importance of multi-stakeholder partnerships in addressing emerging societal and developmental challenges. The collaboration is also expected to strengthen CSR-led community development initiatives and create a platform for knowledge-sharing and impactful interventions across Odisha.

By bringing together academia, industry, and the development sector, the partnership reflects a growing trend of integrating research, innovation, and social responsibility to drive sustainable development. IIT Bhubaneswar’s technical expertise, combined with the Odisha CSR Forum’s corporate network, will help design and implement interventions that are both scientifically sound and socially relevant.
