IIT Jodhpur has set a new innovation high by filing 86 IPRs in 2025 – the highest in a single year since its founding in 2008 – showcasing its growing impact in research and technology. 🌟
The Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur (IIT Jodhpur) has notched a historic achievement, filing a record 86 Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in 2025—the highest annual tally since its establishment in 2008. This surge underscores the institute’s rising prowess in innovation and research translation.
Breakdown of the filings reveals robust diversification: 77 patent applications, 5 design registrations, and 4 copyrights. Collectively, these represent over 150% year-on-year growth compared to 2024, signaling accelerated momentum in IP generation.
The portfolio spans cutting-edge domains, including advanced engineering, healthcare innovations, novel materials and manufacturing techniques, sustainable energy systems, and digital technologies. Many inventions target pressing real-world issues, prioritizing affordability, scalability, and environmental sustainability to align with India’s national priorities like Atmanirbhar Bharat and green development.
IIT Jodhpur officials highlighted that these IPRs emerge from interdisciplinary collaborations among faculty, researchers, and students, addressing challenges in healthcare diagnostics, renewable energy efficiency, smart manufacturing, and AI-integrated solutions.
Prof. Avinash Kumar Agarwal, Director of IIT Jodhpur, hailed the milestone as evidence of the institute’s “research with purpose” ethos. “This record reflects our unwavering commitment to impactful knowledge creation—ethical, sustainable solutions that resonate nationally,” he stated. Prof. Agarwal praised the team’s dedication, noting it lays a solid groundwork for technology transfer and industry partnerships.
He urged converting these IPRs into licensed products and processes to foster economic value, job creation, and progress toward Viksit Bharat 2047. “Licensing and commercialization will generate wealth, empower startups, and propel India as a global innovation leader,” he added.
This accomplishment bolsters IIT Jodhpur’s reputation, building on its Technology Innovation Hub on Geometric Computing (TIH-GC) and incubation ecosystem. With enhanced IP infrastructure, the institute eyes even higher filings in 2026, aiming for deeper industry collaborations and societal impact.
