IIT Patna and IIM Bodh Gaya unveil a five-year integrated BTech/BSc+MBA, admitting students via JoSAA on JEE Advanced ranks, with no CAT requirement for the MBA.
A new IIT–IIM integrated pathway
IIT Patna and IIM Bodh Gaya have launched a five-year integrated dual degree programme that combines a BTech/BSc with an MBA, creating a single, continuous pathway from engineering to management education. The full-time residential programme will admit 60 students and is designed for students who want to build strong technical foundations and management skills early in their careers. By formalising this programme through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the two institutes signal a closer academic partnership between the IIT and IIM ecosystems.
Admissions via JoSAA, no CAT needed
One of the programme’s most distinctive features is its admission route. Students will be admitted directly through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling process, based on their JEE Advanced rank. Once selected, they will not need to appear for the Common Admission Test (CAT) to pursue the MBA component. This structure turns JEE Advanced performance into a gateway not only to an IIT engineering degree but also to an IIM management qualification, simplifying the pathway for students who are clear about pursuing tech-plus-management careers.
Programme structure: three years at IIT, two at IIM
As explained by Prof. T. N. Singh, students will spend the first three years at IIT Patna, completing a BTech or BSc degree. During this phase, they will study core engineering and science subjects, interdisciplinary courses and quantitative methods that build analytical and problem-solving capability. In the final two years, they will move to IIM Bodh Gaya to complete their MBA. This phased structure allows students to first acquire deep technical grounding and then transition into management education, case-based learning and industry-oriented projects.
Three MBA specialisations on offer
At IIM Bodh Gaya, the programme will offer three MBA specialisations:
- General MBA
- MBA in Digital Business and Artificial Intelligence (MBA-DB & AI)
- MBA in Hospital and Healthcare Management (MBA-HHM)
The General MBA prepares students for broad-based management roles. The Digital Business and AI specialisation targets careers in product management, digital transformation, analytics and AI-driven business models. The Hospital and Healthcare Management track serves the rapidly expanding health and health-tech sectors, equipping graduates for roles in hospital administration, healthcare operations, policy, and management of healthcare organisations.
Curriculum: integrating technology and management
The curriculum integrates engineering and science education with business management. In the IIT phase, students will focus on technical subjects, mathematics, computing and interdisciplinary science courses, while also gaining early exposure to communication and critical thinking. At IIM Bodh Gaya, they will study core management disciplines such as finance, marketing, operations, strategy and organisational behaviour, alongside electives tied to their chosen specialisation. The goal is to produce graduates who understand both how technologies are built and how organisations deploy, scale and govern them.
Joint degree and placement support
Students will begin their academic journey with an induction ceremony at IIT Patna. Upon successful completion of the five-year programme, they will receive a joint dual degree certificate during the convocation ceremony at IIM Bodh Gaya, formally recognising the integrated contribution of both institutions. The two institutes will also provide joint placement support through their respective placement cells, widening access to roles across engineering, consulting, product management, digital business and healthcare management.
A broader trend: multi-year collaboration frameworks
This integrated programme fits into a broader trend of long-term institutional collaborations. For example, other institutions like BIT Mesra and IIT Bhubaneswar have signed agreements that create multi-year frameworks – extendable by mutual consent – covering collaborative research, joint supervision of students, faculty and student exchange, academic programmes and technology-driven innovation. Such MoUs, signed at the leadership level, show how Indian institutions increasingly use structured partnerships to deepen academic integration and innovation.

For students, the IIT Patna–IIM Bodh Gaya integrated pathway reduces uncertainty and repeated entrance exam preparation.
